  6. Memo to Editors: 
  7.          The fifth of a series of Surveyor spacecraft, designed  
  8. to soft land on the moon, will be launched from Cape Kennedy  
  9. during a launch period beginning Friday, September 8, and ending 
  10. Wednesday, September 13. 
  11.          The launch window on Friday opens at 12:39 a.m. PDT.   
  12. The press room will be open at JPL at 11:30 p.m. PDT Thursday. 
  13.          Commentary on the mission will be provided during major 
  14. events.  The flight time to the moon will be about 65 hours.  If 
  15. Surveyor succeeds in the soft landing and returns lunar photo-  
  16. graphs to earth, picture release will be at JPL. 
  17.          The Surveyor will be equipped for the first time with a 
  18. device to make an analysis of the lunar soil by bombardment with 
  19. radioactive particles.  The payload on this flight will again  
  20. include a magnetic test device to determine if the lunar soil  
  21. contains magnetic material. 
  22.          The target area will be in the eastern half of the moon 
  23. in the Sea of Tranquility.
